Rocks
A3 original alcohol ink artwork on Yupo paper (with mount)
This alcohol ink painting captures the dramatic rocks and vast seascape of West Bay in Dorset, reimagined in a cool, minimal palette of slate, stone, and ocean blue.
The composition is vertically oriented, drawing the eye from the textured rock formations in the foreground up toward the endless sweep of sea and sky. The rocks—rendered in earthy tones of charcoal, ash, and soft sand—cascade diagonally across the bottom left, their layered formations echoing the iconic Jurassic Coast cliffs. Fluid ink washes and natural marbling give the stone a sense of geological depth and age, evoking time etched into sediment.
Beyond the rocks, the sea stretches out in calm bands of denim and azure, softly striated with horizontal brushstrokes that suggest wind-kissed water. The sky above is pale and diffused, painted in muted greys and warm ivory, hinting at a hazy coastal morning or the quiet stillness before a storm.
The overall mood is contemplative and elemental—where land meets water, and the timeless Dorset coastline is stilled in ink and light.
As with all original artwork non reflective glass is highly recommended when framing as it protects the painting.
