Ritual of the Wild Swimmer

Ritual of the Wild Swimmer

This artwork distills that deep, instinctive calm that settles over you when you approach the sea—breathing in the salt air, feeling the cool pull of water at your feet, and letting the horizon soften everything inside you.

The cyanotype’s rich tones capture the shifting textures of the Aegean: the rolling waves, the mirrored sky, and the glimmer of light that dances over the surface.

At the centre stands the lone swimmer. Her stance suggests a quiet ritual: the breath before immersion, the surrender to something larger, the steadying of the mind that only wild swimming brings.

Rocks on the horizon are highlighted in hand-applied gold leaf—rich, radiant and textured against the deep cyanotype blue. Their metallic surface shifts with the light as the viewer moves, bringing warmth and luminosity to the seascape. Its warm, textured sheen shifts with the light, creating a sense of movement that mirrors the tide itself.

A celebration of solitude, courage, and the healing power of open water.
