Pines of Sardinia

Pines of Sardinia

The umbrella pines of Sardinia are among the island's most recognisable landmarks, their sculptural forms standing proudly against the Mediterranean sky.

In Pines of Sardinia, the cyanotype process transforms these familiar trees into an atmospheric study of light, shape and memory. The deep blues soften the landscape into something timeless, while hand-applied gold leaf traces the contours of the hillside, suggesting the golden light that defines the island.

Inspired by my walk to Vilasimius beach in Sardinia, this piece is less a record of a particular place than a reflection of its enduring character. It celebrates the quiet beauty of trees shaped by wind, sun and time, inviting the viewer to pause and experience the calm that these landscapes so effortlessly evoke.
