Last Light
100cm height by 70cm width
This mixed media artwork incorporating Pavoni leather is inspired by the magnificent Jurassic coast.
It is a gentle, textured abstraction, primarily in muted rose and dusty pink tones. It’s divided into two sections:
- The upper portion of smooth Pavoni leather (Patagonia Vintage Rosa) has subtle organic patterns and a warm, tactile feel.
- The lower portion is richly textured and impastoed, with a thick, uneven application of paint in layers of pink, white, silver and copper. Vertical dotted lines created with a seamstress tool draw the viewer's eye around the painting. They subtly punctuate the surface, like stitching, adding rhythm and delicacy.
Together, the piece has a quiet, introspective energy. It feels like a meditation on time and memory—where the textures may symbolize the marks left by experience, and the soft division implies a horizon or boundary between inner and outer worlds.
A hush clings to the surface—
soft as breath against old leather,
the weight of silence pressed into pink earth.
Beneath, the skin of memory rises:
scratched, scarred, and stitched with light.
This is the place where time forgets
but texture remembers—
a gentle erosion of what once was,
still whispering in the cracks
