Le Jardin des Cinq Sens

Le Jardin des Cinq Sens

This cyanotype captures the view through the gardens towards the château in the medieval village of Yvoire on the shores of Lake Geneva.

The gardens form part of the Jardin des Cinq Sens (Garden of the Five Senses), where each section is designed to be experienced through sight, smell, touch, taste or sound. Wandering along the winding path, I was drawn to the abundance of flowers and the sculptural Mediterranean pine tree stretching gracefully towards the château.

During the printing process I painted directly onto the negative to enhance the foliage, allowing the textures and planting of the garden to emerge more clearly in the final cyanotype.

The rich Prussian blue transforms the familiar landscape into something dreamlike, preserving not just a place, but the quiet experience of exploring a garden designed to awaken all five senses.

Please note that the application of gold leaf varies from artwork to artwork.
