Island Time

This artwork is based on a photograph I took in Barbados, where I discovered the skeletal frame of a wooden fishing boat under construction beside the brilliant turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
What first caught my eye was the striking geometry of the unfinished hull, its curved ribs standing in beautiful contrast to the endless sea beyond. What stayed with me, however, was the island's unhurried pace of life. I visited in May and noticed Christmas decorations still hanging outside a house. When I asked why they hadn't been taken down, the reply was simply, "Christmas will come soon enough."
That phrase perfectly captured the spirit of Barbados. If the midday heat becomes too intense, work pauses. The boat will still be there tomorrow.
Created using the cyanotype process, the rich Prussian blue reflects the colours of the Caribbean while reducing the boat to its essential form. The unfinished structure becomes a celebration of craftsmanship, patience and the gentle reminder that not everything needs to be rushed.
