Held by winter light

Held by winter light

This A3-sized abstract painting, created with alcohol ink on Yupo paper is  a poetic rendering of trees standing bare against a horizon softened by snow and sky.

Vertical forms stretch elegantly from the lower edge, tapering as they rise like slender trunks stripped of foliage. Their shapes are fluid and organic, rendered in gentle washes of sienna, rust, and rosewood, with soft gradients that echo the quiet transitions of light during winter’s short days. The edges of each "tree" are slightly frayed, suggesting bark, brittleness, or the slow bleed of time.

The background is a wash of cool, desaturated hues — ivory, stone grey, and a whisper of lavender — creating the illusion of the fading light of dusk. A single mauve orb hovers in the upper right,  evoking a low winter sun.

The overall effect is contemplative and spacious. The piece invites stillness — like standing alone watching shadows lengthen and light slip quietly across the land.
