Crimson Faultline

Crimson Faultline

This is a striking, large-scale mixed-media artwork measuring 100 × 70 cm, presented in a bespoke black frame.

The piece is highly textured, with a sculptural surface that catches and reflects light. Layers of earthy ochres, umbers, and turquoise tones create a rugged, weathered ground reminiscent of cliffs, rock faces, or abstracted landscapes. Above this, a clear coat of resin seals and intensifies the colours, giving them a luminous depth.

What makes the painting especially dynamic is the red paint applied over the resin—it appears in bold, vertical forms that cascade downward, like flames, falling petals, or figures emerging through the strata. This red detail sits on top of the glossy resin, creating a dual-surface effect: both embedded depth and raised immediacy.

The composition is divided diagonally, with a lighter, cloud-like sweep of muted pinks and soft greys across the upper section, contrasting with the more saturated, tactile layers below. The result is a sense of tension between sky and earth, softness and gravity, flow and fracture.

Overall, the painting feels both raw and refined, combining geological energy with a painterly drama. The framing in black gives it a contemporary edge, anchoring the work as a powerful statement piece.
