Copper Cap

Copper Cap

This s painting captures an abstracted view of Golden Cap, the iconic highest point on England’s south coast, located in Dorset. The scene is bathed in an elemental palette of vivid blues and rich metallics, blending geology and sea in a way that feels both modern and ancient.

The upper portion is adorned with copper leaf, textured and glowing like the sunlit sandstone cliffs for which Golden Cap is known. Beneath this burnished headland, a brooding ridge of dark grey sweeps across the middle of the composition — suggesting the solid landform itself.

The lower half plunges into the ocean: cascades of bold, dripping cobalt and ultramarine blues fall vertically like liquid threads, creating a sense of tide, depth, and motion. The ink forms organic patterns that evoke waves, reflections, or even figures, adding a ghostlike energy to the seascape.

"Copper Cap" is both a tribute to a place of natural grandeur and an exploration of the elements — earth, metal, and water — fused in a minimalist, abstract form. It holds both serenity and drama, capturing the quiet power of the coastline.
