Torn from Time
This captivating alcohol ink and gold leaf painting is an abstract landscape inspired by the dramatic cliffs of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. The upper section is layered with shimmering gold leaf, suggesting sunlit rock faces or the gleam of ancient geological formations. Beneath this radiant expanse, bold swathes of crimson, terracotta, and ochre flow and intermingle, mimicking the layered sediment and raw beauty of the coastline's eroded cliffs.
Hints of jade, lilac, and soft turquoise glimmer between the warmer tones, evoking the mineral richness of the land and the ever-present sea spray. Near the lower left corner, a distinctive form reminiscent of seaweed emerges —like something once submerged and now preserved in time.
The composition captures the elemental drama of the coast: the tension between permanence and erosion, land and sea, light and depth. It feels both ancient and alive.
